About my Talks...

I am happy to give talks supported by a powerpoint presentation or as a ‘stand alone’ speaker. I can supply my own laptop and projector, although I am more than happy to use your in-house equipment.

I am used to giving talks in a variety of venues, to a range of groups and of all shapes and sizes and am happy to tailor a talk to your requirements. My talks last between twenty to forty minutes and I am always quite happy to take questions. I particularly like to get an audience engaged and start a discussion. I am very happy to address Rotary, Probus, Inner Wheel, Literary and Historical Societies, Book Clubs, U3A and many others.

My Fee is £40 plus mileage at 45p per mile or reimbursement of fares.

I am prepared to consider bookings at short notice.

‘The Thick of It’

A light-hearted look at my experiences in politics (without the expletives). From the surprises of the campaign trail, to funny moments at the polling station, to the indignities of public office and of course putting the spin on disasters (approx. 20 minutes). [Photo: 2013-09-18-21.39.00.jpg]

‘Beyond the Topsy Turvy'

Another side of Sir Arthur Sullivan’ – A talk about the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan beyond the familiar collaboration with W.S. Gilbert that spawned the Savoy Operas looking at examples of his art songs, his church and choral music, his grand opera and his orchestral output (appox. 40 minutes) – This talk has specific technical requirements for delivery related to audio equipment. Not available as a ‘stand alone’ talk.

‘Commercialisation: The Risks & Rewards of the Money-Making Revolution in Local Government’

A single British Penny, in the center, and on top of a pile of current, modern (GBP) coins.

A serious and motivational talk about the significant changes going on in local government around generating revenue to support local governments’ service delivery (approx. 30 minutes). Can also be organised as a Workshop. [Coins 3.jpg]
