About me...

I spent the first fifty years of my life living in London, where I had pursued careers as varied as a librarian and a remedial massage therapist, until I made the decision to walk away from my old life,  travel around the world and achieve some of the things on my ‘wish list’. Now happily settled in Shropshire, I give talks to try and persuade other people that they should go out and fulfil their own dreams too.

About my talk...

My talks are around 45 minutes, allowing for a further 15 minutes of questions.

I can present my talks either with or without a Powerpoint presentation (depending on the facilities  available at your venue). I provide my own laptop and projector. I just need a screen or white wall to project on to.

As restrictions on our lives imposed by measures to combat Covid-19 continue, I know club secretaries are now looking to plan their schedules for next year. I am happy to offer to do my talks via Zoom or Skype. The talk will include a Q&A session at the end. The talk fee will remain the same (£45) but obviously there will be no expenses to pay.

I am also a Mirthy Speaker

Fee:

My standard fee is £45 for an evening or daytime talk within ten miles of where I live in Wem, north Shropshire.  For venues  further afield I charge 33p per mile travel expenses. I am happy to travel throughout Shropshire and into Cheshire, Staffordshire and West Midlands

Travels With a Penguin

‘Travels With a Penguin’ is not a talk about penguins.

It’s not exactly a talk about travels either – at least it’s not the standard ‘where I went on my holidays’ type of talk.  It’s the story of how I, an ordinary woman in my fifties, walked away from my comfortable life, gave up my job, sold my home, and set off to travel all the way around the world  to do some of the things on my ‘wish list’ – all with only a small stuffed penguin for company .
I talk about how I came to make this decision, some of the things I did on my travels, and the effect the journey had on me.

I finish off by getting my audience to think about their own ‘wish lists’ and how they could turn some of those dreams into reality.

Travels with a penguin - to Antarctica

I describe my original ‘Travels with a penguin’ talk (see above) as ‘not being about travels nor about penguins’.
My latest talk is about both those things, as it describes how I fulfilled a long-held dream by taking a trip to Antarctica.
I came home wanting to share the grandeur and beauty of this pristine and unspoilt continent with everyone, so have put together a 45-minute slide presentation which includes stunning scenery, wonderful wildlife, plenty of penguins and a trip to the post office!
