Location: Newbury, UK
About The Speaker...

I have a medical background having run clinical trials for big pharmaceutical companies for all my career. I’m interested in Astronomy and have been a committee member of Newbury Astronomy Club for many years and help organise their talks. I have also been a Magistrate in North Hampshire for several years and have interesting talks prepared on Astronomy and a more interactive talk about court cases based on my experience.

About Their Talks...

1/. A Brief Tour of our Universe
Giving an introduction to some of the key contents of our solar system and beyond, trying to put over the size of the universe and some of the mysteries still unsolved.

2/. Recent Discoveries in Astronomy
Highlighting some of the more fascinating recent discoveries in Astronomy and some of the still unexplained phenomena that have been observed.

3/. A Day in the Life of a Magistrate
The history of this role followed by up to a dozen real cases I have faced in court (number of cases depending on time available and amount of discussion). Each case is presented as it was in court and I encourage discussion regarding the most appropriate sentence with the audience followed by the actual sentence the Magistrates decided

Fee:

£50 per talk plus mileage at 25p per mile for the return drive
I have my own projector and will be showing PowerPoint slides via my laptop. I will need a screen or suitable wall to project my slides onto
