Village School

This talk is about my time leading one of the last true village schools. What made it unique was that it was a triple partnership between the Local Authority, the Church of England and the Lord of the Manor. The talk covers the story of Throwley School, located in the North Downs, ‘an overcoat colder than Faversham,’ where I also lived in the school house.

In its 110 years the school had only 12 substantive headteachers, of which I was the last. The talk tells of what it was to lead this rural school, located in a farming community and how the headteacher related to the parents, Lord Harris of Belmont and served the parish as well. It is always well-received.
