About this speaker...

Although Maggie Poppa had a very interesting career as a  management consultant, since retiring her experience has moved in many directions as she responded to the opportunities that came along. Retirement – What retirement?

This talk is detailing the role she took up as a news broadcaster at BBC Radio York, and then moving on to write for a Yorkshire magazine where she interviews famous people for her regular column. She has now interviewed well over a hundred well known personalities from all walks of life.

My Year in Italy

When Maggie was 19 she went off to a new life in Italy working as a nanny. This was more than fifty years ago and more unusual in those days. That year had a great impact on her life, as she married an Italian and she will tell you of those interesting, early visits to her new in-laws.

Staying at the REAL Exotic Marigold Hotel

Visiting India had always been top of my bucket list and let’s face it, time was running out! I decided to take the plunge and take a solo trip to Rajastan, delighted to find a tour that included staying several nights at the place where the film ‘The Exotic Marigold Hotel was filmed. I was not disappointed and instantly fell in love with India as I walked out of the airport in Delhi.  Although I visited the famous sights what entranced me and what I would like to pass on to my audience was the ‘Real India’ aspect that I was allowed to see. Seeing the place where the popular film was made, made me realise that filming is largely smoke and mirrors.

My talk can be given as a projection (all equipment provided other than a screen) or for venues where this is unsuitable, a stand-alone version is available, illustrated by large acetate photographs.
