About this speaker...

Although Maggie Poppa had a very interesting career as a  management consultant, since retiring her experience has moved in many directions as she responded to the opportunities that came along. Having been asked to speak about these opportunities she realised that public speaking came very naturally to her and these days she is speaking to various groups on a twice weekly basis, and travelling all around the county of Yorkshire.

About her talks...

Maggie is one of those rare speakers who can simply stand and speak, no power point, no slide presentations, just Maggie.

All of Maggie’s fees go to St Gemma’s Hospice, Leeds. Speaking to smaller groups any figure above £35 is acceptable, but to Ladies Luncheons or larger audiences then a minimum of £50- £75 is usual. Travel around Leeds will not incur extra travel expenses, but for a visit outside the Leeds area a donation of £5/£10 towards travel will be welcome depending on the distance.

Travelling distances. Maggie will accept booking for any area of Yorkshire/Greater Manchester/Humberside for the right reward. Maggie will also jump to the request for short notice bookings as much as she can.

Retirement – What retirement?

This talk is detailing the role she took up as a news broadcaster at BBC Radio York, and then moving on to write for a Yorkshire magazine where she interviews famous people for her regular column. She has now interviewed well over a hundred well known personalities from all walks of life.

My Year in Italy

When Maggie was 19 she went off to a new life in Italy working as a nanny. This was more than fifty years ago and more unusual in those days. That year had a great impact on her life, as she married an Italian and she will tell you of those interesting, early visits to her new in-laws.

Staying at the REAL Exotic Marigold Hotel

Visiting India had always been top of my bucket list and let’s face it, time was running out! I decided to take the plunge and take a solo trip to Rajastan, delighted to find a tour that included staying several nights at the place where the film ‘The Exotic Marigold Hotel was filmed. I was not disappointed and instantly fell in love with India as I walked out of the airport in Delhi.  Although I visited the famous sights what entranced me and what I would like to pass on to my audience was the ‘Real India’ aspect that I was allowed to see. Seeing the place where the popular film was made, made me realise that filming is largely smoke and mirrors.

My talk can be given as a projection (all equipment provided other than a screen) or for venues where this is unsuitable, a stand-alone version is available, illustrated by large acetate photographs.
