About The Speaker...
I have spent a total of 55 years working as a senior police officer, probation officer, criminal justice consultant, university lecturer and and as a Trade Union national representative, primarily all within the jurisdiction of criminal justice. In my semi-retirement I decided to write books. The first two books I have published are a light hearted and I hope entertaining look back at my career(s). The first book is titled ‘Cornflakes with Whisky’ and is an autobiographical gallop through 33 years in policing from 1970 where I started as a police cadet to 2003 when I retired as a chief inspector responsible for complaints and discipline.
The second book is called ‘How to Strangle a Jelly and is about a Lifetime of Talking to People for a Living and is memoir spread across all my careers of public speaking and communicating with people. My talks are centred around the two books. I live within the beautiful county of Worcestershire and only started writing books in retirement to avoid DIY and gardening at home. I am married with a wife, two daughters and a granddaughter and love them all dearly.
About Their Talks...
Two talks, both of which have unusual titles which will be explained within the talks and are about the speakers two published books:
The first is called ‘Cornflakes with Whisky’ and is an affectionate and humorous gallop through the authors four decades of community policing across the Midlands counties of England from the dinosaur days of the 1970’s ‘Life on Mars’ era until retirement in 2003, relating, humorous, sad, tragic but also bizarre events such as the poacher who nailed his ear to a tree! The book was sub-titled, ‘One career, two lives, one marriage. A real story of community policing and of an enduring relationship over four decades,’ and is dedicated to my wife Judy who has been with me during my entire careers, through thick and thin.
The second talk is called ‘How to Strangle a Jelly’ and vividly portrays my experiences spent during a lifetime of talking and communicating with people from all walks of life, in a variety of situations with my careers. Again, entertaining, informative and humorous it is about real interactions with real people at the sharp end of some of the toughest jobs and situations anyone could face, whether lecturing, calming violent people, preventing suicide resolving conflict, rehabilitating offenders, dealing with relatives of the deceased or or giving a comical speech, it is all contained within the talk, based on the book!
Both books are available via Amazon or the author direct.
