About The Speaker...

I am a comedian, writer, speaker trainer and passionate old movie fan. I spent many years working in the publishing industry before jumping ship to pursue the work I truly love.
The two areas I speak on are workplace culture and, you guessed it, old movies. In all cases I deliver talks from a position of great passion for my topic and always with plenty of humour. I travel all over the UK performing comedy and have appeared at numerous festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe.

Two of my talks, Bloody Work! and Old Movies Saved My Life, are based on solo comedy shows I performed in Edinburgh. Bloody Work! is a plea for a more human-centred workplace, a real hot button topic right now.
Old Movies Saved My Life is a fun, illustrated look at my life seen through the prism of my love of film.

I regularly talk about workplace culture to groups of businesspeople and to networking groups. Podcast appearances include Sticky From the Inside and The Cashflow Show.

I co-host the Talking Pictures TV podcast and have written many articles on classic film-related topics for Yours Retro magazine. In addition, I am often asked to introduce film screenings and host a regular film-related online quiz.
I am also a highly experienced comedy MC and am available to host and facilitate team away days, conferences etc.

‘May just make your day’ (Scotsman)
‘Sixty Minutes of Inspired Comedy’ (Lancs Post)
‘Highly recommended. A total tonic at our event. Just what we all needed.’ (Athena Networking)
‘You’ve awakened a whole new world for me.’ (Faversham Fringe Audience Review)
‘More from Mel, please.’ (Westminster Library Talk Attendee)
‘A great evening of entertainment and laughter – which everyone enjoyed immensely.’ (Wallasey Film Society)

BLOODY WORK!

BLOODY WORK!

This is a plea for a more human-centred workplace, a real hot button topic right now now and one that affects most of us. Seventy percent of us hate our jobs. Is it any wonder, with pointless jargon to contend with (Key Performance Indicators, anyone?), and even more pointless employee perks? And as for bosses, where do we start?
Comedian and tired ex-middle manager, Mel Byron, pokes fun at the absurdities that drove her to head for the door and offers some solutions to make work better. It’s really not that hard!

OLD MOVIES SAVED MY LIFE

OLD MOVIES SAVED MY LIFE

Whilst her friends were sneaking into nightclubs underage, Mel Byron was spending her weekends learning about life from the films of the 30s, 40s and 50s. From these she learnt about life, if not entirely accurately. Could she grow up to be as glamorous as Carole Lombard or Margaret Lockwood? Might she actually marry a movie star? Mel will share her encyclopaedic knowledge and recommend the films you need in your lives, too.
