Location: Newbury, Berkshire
About The Speaker...

I’m Robert Bone and I’m a professional close-up Magician, cabaret Mind-reader and Demonstrator of Extra-Sensory Curiosities. (Basically it’s a posh way of saying I mess with people’s heads in a fun and entertaining way.) I use a combination of sleight of hand, memory techniques, psychological reading and hypnotic suggestion. This creates a style of entertainment that is both fun and engaging.

About Their Talks...

I have a selection of talks and presentations on the subject of magic. These talks are great for Woman’s Institute, White Tables Nights, Rotary Meetings or after-dinner.

Though they are primarily educational, they are of course entertaining featuring plenty of magical demonstrations. Not only that, they feature interaction interaction with the whole audience, as well as smoothly incorporating video and audio. (I can supply my own equipment for this too).

The talks last 45-60 minutes and allow for questions to be asked at the end – of which there will likely be many!

I also give keynote presentations geared to corporate audiences, using demonstrations of skills to illustrate various techniques vital in getting the most from your teams.

Fee:

Fees can vary depending on requirements, but a “standard” 45 presentation for a small to medium sized social group is in the region of £95. Please note travel costs may apply depending on location.

The History of Magic

This talk is a whistle-stop tour of the history of magic, looking at the origins of magic and how it’s performance through the ages. It looks at broad styles and categories of magic, the personalities involved and demonstrations of the tricks.

Starting from Ancient Egypt, the Middle Ages and into the television era of magic; it looks at close-up magic, illusions and mind-reading. As well as the demonstrations taken directly from my working repertoire it also includes video clips featuring the likes of David Copperfield, Paul Daniels and even rare footage of Harry Houdini.

This talk is perfect for clubs and societies who have not seen me talking before as it introduces the subject in a fun, engaging and educational way.

The Expert At The Card Table

With this talk I focus on the humble deck of playing cards. The backbone of this talk is on a certain 100 year old book which not only got me started in magic, but is also regarded as the bible of card cheats and sleight-of-hand magicians. It also has an autobiographical element to it as it also has the parallel story of how I got started in magic, and became a professional magician.

If you’ve already seen my History of Magic talk then this is a natural follow on as it delves deeper into the subject.

Demonstrations are projected onto a screen so the whole audience feel as so they are sat opposite a sleight of hand master, not just listening to a speaker.

Oh, and through-out it I am genuinely teaching the sleight-of-hand techniques used by gamblers and con-artists!

Henry Sugar – Mind Reading

Like the Expert at the Card Table lecture, this talk also uses a book at it’s core; but instead of being a factual book, this is fictional story by Roald Dahl: “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”. However, whereas the Expert At The Card Table has its focus on sleight-of-hand card magic, this talk’s focus is on mentalism and mind-reading.

Similar to the previous talk it also has a slightly autobiographical nature; but instead of directly influencing my journey into magic it looks at how how the demonstrations of mind-reading within it as child.

Although the Story of Henry Sugar is fictional, one of the major characters was based on a real person. Through-out the talk Robert gives demonstrations of mind-reading and seeing without eyes. Some of these are from his working repertoire, and some are re-enactments taken straight from the pages of Roald Dahl’s book.

This talk follows well from the Expert At The Card Table talk, but each work well independently. (A bit like the original Star Wars films – they can be watched by themselves, or build into parts of a bigger picture).

Magic Society Lectures

I can be booked to talk at magic societies to present his “How To Be A Professional Magician” lecture.

I do not claim to be a creator of magic, but over the years of being a professional magician my tricks have evolved and developed to make them unique to me and my presentation. This slow process of evolutions means that whilst my material isn’t likely going to fool many magicians, the material is fine tuned to create maximum impact on spectators. You can also learn how to take a “standard” trick and make it unique to you by developing its presentation.

My talk divulges some of these presentational secrets that have taken countless performances to perfect, but can be immediately utilised by any magician. Of course, there are few tricks in there that are unique to me that you won’t have seen elsewhere.

The lecture also covers branding, marketing and running your magic as a business – giving hard hitting tips for the seasoned full-time professional or as a hobbyist looking to improve their presentation.

I have created the online course and podcast called How To Be A Professional Magician.
