About The Speaker...

I’m fascinated by human relationships. I people-watch wherever I go, finding material for my writing. Despite the writer’s life, I have an adventurous streak and I’ve swum with whale sharks in Australia, fallen down a crevasse in the French Alps and walked through the sewers of Brighton – not in that order.

After a long career in public relations, I took the six-month Writing a Novel course at the Faber Academy, and my first psychological thriller was published in 2017. Since then I’ve published five more, with another to be launched in June 2023. I’m a regular interviewee on radio, at literary festivals, in libraries and at book club meetings.

About Their Talks...

I wanted to write a novel all my life. It took more than forty years to find the impetus I needed – and the courage – to go ahead.

Wrestling With the Octopus is about my journey to becoming a published author – the ups and downs, disappointments and thrills. I discuss the mysteries of publishing, the need for resilience, patience and determination and the joy of seeing my books in print. If you’ve ever wondered where authors get their ideas from, you’ll find out in this talk. I explain what a literary agent does, how important an editor is to an author’s career — and how the money works.

I have six published novels, all psychological thrillers, with the next coming in summer 2023. I have ideas for the next two, as well as a trilogy and a series – so plenty to keep me going!

Fee:

I charge £75 for an hour, plus nominal travel expenses.
